Fees and Billing Arrangement 

All SMSG centres are MIXED Billing medical practices. Each individual doctor set their own fee schedule. We BULK BILL any patients with a valid Medicare Card for most of routine consultations. Certain consultations are not allowed to be bulk billed under Medicare rules e.g., Worker Compensation Claim, Commercial Drive Medical Assessment, Cosmetic procedures, Occupation/Job Medical Assessment, Railway Industry Medicals, Boxer Competition Medicals. If you are not sure, please speak to the reception staff when you make an appointment. 

As to ensure we can continuously provide excellent surgical services and to ensure patients the highest quality of hospital graded surgical equipment and materials, a private billing arrangement is applied to the following procedures, with patients holding a valid Medicare Card receiving a Medicare Rebate  : 

  1. Complete Woman's Health Check includes Cervical Screening Test ​and Breasts Check

  2. Skin lesion / Skin cancer removal 

  3. Suturing of laceration / Plastering of fracture  

  4. Implanon/Mirena IUD insertion and / or removal 

  5. Treatment room procedures 


As of 01/01/2020, all new patients requesting to see Dr Alexander Lewis, Dr Sandra Rahme, Dr Lisa Cheng and Prof Danforn Lim will no longer be bulk-billed.


Additionally, patients who have not seen Prof Danforn Lim for over 2 years will also be privately charged. 

Please call or come in to ask the friendly front desk staff regarding private costs and Medicare rebates. 

Overseas Visitors or Students (OVHC/OSHC) under BUPA and Allianz or overseas students (OSHC) under Medibank Private / AHM / CBHS insurance cover may have their routine consultations directly billed to the insurance company ie., no out of pocket cost, depending on the type of insurance cover. BUPA holders must present physical card in order for direct billing, otherwise private billings might apply. 

If you do not hold a valid Medicare card, you will be charged full fees and these information can be requested from the staff at reception desk.
